Founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, Masciarelli is one of the most revered wineries in Italy, but none of it would have been possible without the help of Gianni's wife, Gemma - whom the Villa Gemma Montepulciano is named after. Powerful and elegant, this 2017 vintage is a medium-bodied ode to her, boasting notes of intense black cherry and bramble layered with spicy oak, which gives way to a complex finish of cocoa, balsam and black liquorice.
